I’m Glad Maya Didn’t Join Grey’s Anatomy After Station 19’s Cancelation Because Of Danielle Savre’s New Show

The end of Station 19 could have warranted Maya joining Grey’s Anatomy, but that not happening delights me because of what it made possible for Maya actor Danielle Savre and her new show. Maya’s marriage with Grey Sloan doctor Carina DeLuca could have easily introduced her back into Grey’s Anatomy, in which the firefighter was already involved during the many crossovers between Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19. Such a development could make sense because of Carina’s appearances in the medical drama even after she became a key character in Station 19, but it wouldn’t work as seamlessly for Maya.

Maya had always been a central character in Station 19. Her friendship with Andy, her ambition to become the youngest female Seattle Fire Chief and the storylines focusing on her LGBTQ+ identity and Maya’s problematic family made her an indissoluble part of the firefighting drama, even more so when her ambitions forced her to clash with her loved ones. Maya’s choices in Station 19 season 7 proved how she changed for the better. I doubt Grey’s Anatomy could put the same focus on Maya, making Savre not joining Grey’s Anatomy a good thing, especially in light of her new show.

Danielle Savre’s addition to Found season 2 was announced shortly after Station 19’s end, hinting at an entirely new role for the actor. With the NBC missing persons crime drama blurring the lines between the good Mosely & Associates do and Gabi’s controversial choice to keep her captor locked up to use him to solve cases, Savre’s character addition can mean a more central role for the actor than Maya returning to Grey’s Anatomy could have ever offered. Found creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll praised Savre’s contribution in season 2, highlighting how her character will interact with “almost everyone” on Found.

Carroll’s words describe Savre’s addition as resulting in a “beautiful, fun energy to bring in,” even hinting at the audience deciding how to feel about her character. Such a description could point to Savre’s character being hard to decipher, possibly a double agent for Mosely & Associates and Sir or something even more ambiguous, making her recurring role a chance for Savre to shine. In addition, were audiences to react strongly to Savre’s character, this could potentially mean a bigger role in Found for her in the future.

Why Savre Being In Found Season 2 Is Better Than Maya Joining Grey's Anatomy

Station 19 ending with season 7 and Ben Warren choosing to return to medicine already guaranteed a key character from the firefighting drama would have returned to Grey’s Anatomy. Even more could possibly return, given Grey’s Anatomy’s showrunner Meg Marinis’ comments (via TVLine) about an appearance from Carina being always a possibility, given her existence in Grey’s Anatomy’s world. Maya’s addition to Grey’s Anatomy just like Carina’s wife would not have added much to her journey in Station 19.

Grey’s Anatomy always juggled a great number of characters. Savre joining Grey’s Anatomy would only work for Maya if the medical drama gave more space to her and Carina’s story, something highly unlikely given its already big ensemble cast. I believe Savre’s talent can have more chance to shine in Found, even potentially establishing her character’s role more solidly in the future, something Grey’s Anatomy could not do due to its already big cast and the smaller focus it always put on Maya and Carina.
