Grey’s Anatomy star Sarah Drew’s new show lands premiere date

Grey's Anatomy star Sarah Drew's new show Mistletoe Murders has landed a release date.

The actor, best known for her role as April Kepner in the hit medical drama, will play the owner of a small-town festive store in the new series, who investigates murders in her spare time.

The six-episode series will premiere on Thursday, October 31 on US streaming service Hallmark+. A UK release date has yet to be announced (via Deadline).

Based on the Audible series of the same name, Mistletoe Murders centres around Drew's optimistic character Emily Lane, who has a sardonic sense of humour, cunning intellect and a keen eye for detail.

While living in the quaint town of Fletcher's Grove, she is drawn to investigate not-so-quaint local murders.

A smart local cop called Detective Sam Wilner (Peter Mooney), who has a crush on Emily that hasn't gone completely unrequited, starts to wonder if there's more to Emily than meets the eye.

The show will also star Sierra Marilyn Riley, Jean Yoon, Lara Amersey, Kylee Evans and David Hewlett, while guest stars include Tom Cavanagh, Jake Epstein and Steven Lund.

"We're excitedly dipping our toe in the Christmas Noir space by bringing Hallmark's cosy mystery viewers a holiday murder mystery for the first time," said Kelly Garrett, vice president of development at Hallmark Media.

"This deftly layered story is based on the beloved Audible Original series by Ken Cupurus and will take us deeper into who our characters are and will give the audience fun new twists and turns."

Drew joined Grey's Anatomy as April Kepner during season six, before leaving the show at the end of season 14.

She has returned to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for fleeting visits, reprising her role as Kepner in seasons 17 and 18.

Mistletoe Murders isn't Drew's first Hallmark project, with the actor previously heading up a number of feel-good films, including One Summer, Guiding Emily and festive hit Christmas in Vienna.
