Grey’s Anatomy Season 21’s New Character Is Good News For Owen Hunt’s Story

Grey’s Anatomy season 21 is introducing a new character who has a history with Owen Hunt, which spells good things for his upcoming story. Actor Floriana Lima will have a recurring role in Grey’s Anatomy season 21, adding to the large ensemble cast of the long-running medical drama. Unfortunately, the additions also come with some exits, including Midori Francis’ Mika Yasuda and Jake Borelli’s Levi Schmitt. Grey’s Anatomy season 21 will also feature the return of Dr. Sydney Heron, though Lima won’t be playing a doctor.

Many potential storylines opened up after the shocking Grey’s Anatomy season 20 ending. This has led to some exciting possibilities for many characters, and the new character could do the same thing for Owen. His character has been a part of the series for over 15 seasons now, and Grey's Anatomy season 21 will prove that there’s still so much to learn about Owen Hunt. His past has previously been explored with his sister Megan and former friend Nathan Riggs, and Lima’s character can show another side of him.

Not much has been revealed yet about Floriana Lima’s character in Grey’s Anatomy outside some basic information. She will be playing Nora, a childhood friend of Owen and Megan. She comes to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after some dangerous complications following a routine operation at another hospital. She was described in Deadline as a “devoted mother” who is recently divorced and determined to survive to be there for her children.

Most of Owen’s backstory thus far has focused on his time as a trauma surgeon in the military. However, Nora is someone who knew him even before that, which can introduce a whole new backstory that hasn’t been revealed yet in Grey’s Anatomy. It will be interesting to see how they interact and how close they are, as they are far removed from childhood. Owen is a very passionate, and sometimes impulsive, surgeon, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he took Nora’s case into his own hands.

Beyond the introduction of Nora, Grey’s Anatomy season 21 has been setting up some new and interesting Owen storylines. Owen has had a strange journey as a doctor in recent seasons, with his medical license briefly suspended. Though he’s back working full-time at Grey Sloan again, Owen discovered a new interest in Grey’s Anatomy season 20. After saving two lives on a day off, Owen pitched the idea of Grey Sloan funding online and in-person classes so that everyday folks can receive basic medical training.

This could see Owen stepping into more of a teaching role in Grey’s Anatomy season 21, as Bailey did as the new resident director. Additionally, his wife, Teddy, was fired at the end of Grey’s Anatomy season 20, and neither of them appeared in the season 21 trailer. This suggests Owen and Teddy taking on much different roles in the series than those they previously had, professionally or otherwise. With the addition of Nora and a potential job change, viewers can expect new, exciting things for Owen Hunt in Grey’s Anatomy season 21.
