A new trailer for Grey's Anatomy season 21 has been released, previewing the return of a character from Station 19 alongside the aftermath of the season 20 finale. Grey's Anatomy season 20 ended with multiple shocking events, including Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) making the Alzheimer's research she was working on with Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) public. Amelia, Teddy, and Owen were also let go by the urologist in the final episode, while Jo (Camilla Luddington) collapsed for reasons that aren't yet clear. Plenty hangs in the balance for multiple doctors as season 21 approaches.
Now, TV Promos has released the newest trailer for Grey's Anatomy season 21, which teases the return of Ben Warren (Jason George) following his move to Station 19 in 2018. The trailer also reveals Catherine as a force to be reckoned with this season, suing Meredith for publicly releasing the Alzheimer's research. Miranda (Chandra Wilson) is also seen slapping her after she's confronted for standing up for the fired interns. Medical cases are also teased, including one involving a faulty bungee jumping cord. Grey's Anatomy season 21 seems primarily focused on the fallout from Catherine's decisions last season, making her a central character in the storylines to come. With multiple characters in conflict with her for different reasons, it appears the show will be jumping right into making her a central antagonist. This could potentially tie into Ben's return after Station 19 ended, alongside the return of Kali Rocha's Sydney Heron after 17 years of not being on the show.
What's curious is the trailer doesn't give a clear answer as to where Jo's storyline will go, despite her collapse and pregnancy reveal during season 20. With so many characters to juggle in the upcoming episodes, it wouldn't be surprising if the first few had a major focus on Catherine's conflicts with other doctors to set up what the core focus of the next season is going to be. The trailer also clarified that regular medical cases will still continue to come into the hospital, meaning patients' lives could become entangled with the tension currently unfolding.

Despite how long the show's been running for, the season 21 trailer indicates the medical drama still has plenty of stories left to tell with its ensemble cast of characters. Ben and Sydney's upcoming returns also hint at more of the show's past being brought into the present, perhaps featuring the return of more Grey's Anatomy characters in the future. With Catherine becoming a central figure in the upcoming episodes, it looks like the conflicts in store will have long-lasting repercussions for everyone working at Grey Sloan Memorial.
Grey's Anatomy season 21 premieres Thursday, September 26 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
