New images from Grey's Anatomy season 21 have been released, revealing Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) return to Grey Sloan Memorial while also teasing two character exits. The upcoming episodes come off the back of the intense Grey's Anatomy season 20 ending, which saw Meredith release her Alzheimer's research to the public as Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) fired three major characters from the hospital. Teasers for season 21 hint at major tensions moving forward as the cast deal with medical cases they need to be united to attend to.
Collider has released new images from the Grey's Anatomy season 21 premiere, revealing Meredith's return as she prepares for a legal battle with Catherine after releasing her Alzheimer's research publicly. Catherine is seen standing in an office in one image, looking back and smiling at someone. What Grey's Anatomy's New Images Mean For Season 21
The Show Will Be Addressing Many Elements In The Premiere
Grey's Anatomy season 21 will be setting the stage for a harrowing season in its premiere, the images implying Levi and Mika's exits are going to be extremely important for the start of the show. Both Borelli and Francis are confirmed to be appearing in a recurring role, expected to leave after only showing up for a few episodes this season. But their characters' fates aren't the only ones up in the air, since Catherine fired Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) in the season 20 finale.
Tensions at the hospital are going to be high, with the latest Grey's Anatomy season 21 trailer featuring Miranda (Chandra Wilson) slapping Catherine in front of a crowd of doctors. It appears the urologist will be facing plenty of backlash for her decisions lately, made all the more complex by a potential legal battle with Meredith. Since she's become a central figure getting antagonized on all sides, it's possible Levi and Mika leaving will have something to do with a conflict between them and her.

These new images of Grey's Anatomy season 21 hint at intense storylines for the show, something that seems to be a guarentee for the upcoming developments in store. While they don't reveal how Meredith and Catherine's conflict will resolve, nor how Levi and Mika will leave, the photos indicate strong tensions will be underway right from the premiere episode. With plenty of setup for the new season already getting teased, we think it's going to be one of the show's most high-octante so far.
